If you’re experiencing connection issues, especially on school, workplace, or public Wi-Fi networks, updating your DNS settings may help resolve the problem.

Many networks use DNS filtering to restrict access to certain websites or services. Instead of blocking traffic directly, their DNS servers prevent specific domains from resolving or redirect them to a block page. While this is commonly used for security and content control, it can sometimes interfere with legitimate tools and services.

Switching to a trusted public DNS provider—such as Google or Cloudflare—can often restore normal access.

macOS Instructions

  1. Click the Apple menu → open System Settings
  2. Go to Network
  3. Select your active connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet)
  4. Click Details → open the DNS tab
  5. Click the + button and add one of the following:

Cloudflare DNS

Windows Instructions

  1. Open the Start Menu, search for Control Panel, and press Enter
  2. Go to Network and Sharing Center
  3. Click Change adapter settings (left sidebar)
